GRENADA HOLIDAYS
Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique make up the tri-island nation of Grenada at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands. This English-speaking country, nick-named “The Spice Island” for the many spices cultivated here, has a green, mountainous interior, much of which is protected and perfect for nature-lovers. Grenada is blessed with many fine sandy beaches and beautiful bays, the clear waters of which are host to extensive reef formations – making for great snorkelling and diving trips. Grenada is an ideal getaway for the traveller who wants a quieter laid back holiday but at the same time it has plenty of activities for the more adventurous.
Grenada
St. George’s is a delightfully picturesque capital of colonial buildings and pastel-coloured red-roofed houses that cling to steep hills surrounding the blue harbour waters. Enjoy the dock-side bustle along the Carenage, check out the harbour views from Fort George and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the Saturday morning market. A good range of hiking trails cross Grenada’s national parks. Grand Etang is a crater lake surrounded by tropical rainforest. Levera Park is a large mangrove swamp with white beaches where turtles lay eggs. Discover how Grenada’s spices are cultivated in the island’s spice gardens and how nutmeg is processed for export. You can also visit some old distilleries to learn about the history and process of sugar and rum production on Grenada. Important rock carvings at Mount Rich provide an insight into the life of the Amerindian people on Grenada.
Carriacou
Satellite island of sandy beaches and green hills best visited by boat from St. George’s (look out for whales and dolphins) providing fabulous views of the coast of Grenada. This “land of reefs” is a great spot for diving and snorkelling
